Before boning your boots, it is essential to ensure they are made from wax calf leather. Boning must never be used on box calf leather, as it can damage the grain surface and permanently ruin the finish.

Boning is a traditional bootmaking technique used to compress and smooth the waxed leather after polishing. By applying gentle pressure with the polishing bone, the surface of the leather is worked to produce the deep, mirror-like finish for which traditional wax calf riding boots are renowned. When carried out correctly and regularly, boning also helps maintain the appearance of the leather for years to come.
